Vehicle design
The design of our buses, trains and trams helps provide passengers with barrier-free travel. At the moment, one of the main tasks in this area is to provide access ramps.
Ramps in low-floor buses
Our transport companies have taken a number of measures to make journeys as barrier-free as possible. For instance, the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) have fitted most of their low-floor buses and all of their low-floor trams with manually operated access ramps. The Verkehrsgesellschaft Hoyerswerda mbH (VGH) only uses low-floor vehicles on their bus routes. There are also ramps – some automatic, some manual – in all the low-floor regional rail vehicles operating in the VVO area.
Only vehicle staff may operate the ramps.
The ramps on low-floor buses are situated at doors marked with a wheelchair symbol (2nd door). You can recognise buses with ramps from these features:
- The wheelchair user symbol is located on the right-hand side at the front and rear.
- On the 2nd door there is another wheelchair user symbol.
Ramps on trams and regional trains
The ramps on low-floor trams are located at the first door (behind the driver's door). There is a wheelchair user symbol there with a red rectangle.
On regional Deutsche Bahn trains there are only ramps in low-floor vehicles, not in high-floor vehicles.
